2011 Weddings

At last I’ve had a spare minute to get together a  selection of images from weddings we covered last year.

For those of you who are considering booking  Rapture Photography for your wedding, these images were chosen because they represent our style of wedding photography -  fun, relaxed and unobtrusive to get the full story and emotion of the wedding day, but also including some semi-staged and creative images for added impact.

Academy Senior Dance

Senior Dance 2011

Had a wonderful night towards the end of last year at the Alness Academy Senior Dance. They had a Blue Theme, and I think this picture sums up the good time had by the students. What a privelege being part of these types of events as a photographer!

Scottish Wedding Directory – latest issue

Check out the cool feature in the new issue of Scottish Wedding Directory – “Couple’s Choice/Photographer’s Choice” – we thought it was really interesting to see the differences in the images and the reasons behind choosing them. This issue (page 226) features two images from a wedding we did earlier this year in April  for Susan & Stuart in Dornoch.

COUPLE’S CHOICE: “This photography is so natural, relaxed and carefree looking. The colours are amazing and it captures how happy the day was. It also looks like we’re somewhere quite exotic rather than the beach in Dornoch.”

RAPTURE’S CHOICE: “This image captures such a fun and spontaneous moment. The relatively featureless environment really highlights their emotion and movement. Although the conditions on the beach were tough – intense high sun, no clouds and strong wind – Susan and Stuart were wonderful and just went for it.”

The Wedding Guests…

For a change, Alison and I were *guests* at a wedding on Saturday – our very good friend Tara who got married to John in Tunbridge Wells (Kent) . It was an amazing day and Tara looked absolutely stunning! I was planning on NOT taking any pictures at the wedding because I wanted to completely ‘relax’, and they had another friend of theirs doing the honours… but as I’m sure you’ve guessed, the temptation got the better of me. So I asked T&J if I could borrow them for 5 minutes…  and here ’s the result, taken shortly after we arrived at the Reception venue in two of these London busses.

Cute little furry guys…

Don’t worry, I’ve not gone completely mad ;o)  It’s fun shooting different  subjects though, so thought I’d share these snaps of the cute little furry guys that I took while cutting the grass in our garden yesterday. They are quite tricky to photograph because of their small size, and they move incredibly quickly between plants. Focus is key, as to try and ‘separate’ them from the background, you need a very low depth-of-field.

Wishing you all the best from Scotland…

We would like to share some awful news that affected recent clients of ours – Ashley and Mike – who got married earlier this month at Dornoch Cathedral. They had come over from Canada to get married here, but while they were over, they heard news that there were many, out-of-control, wild fires threatening their home town (Slave Lake, Alberta). They were able to have their wedding as planned – and what a beautiful and joyful day it was as you can see from the photos  – but then they had to fly back home earlier than planned as the whole town was evacuated. Not sure if it was reported here in the mainstream media – but we didn’t hear anything about it at the time. The images of the destruction to the town I’ve seen online are shocking. I can’t imagine the worry they had to go through. Thank goodness everyone appears to be safe at least, and I’m sure all our clients would join us in wishing them and their families well for the future and our thoughts are with all the residents of Slave Lake as the clearing and rebuilding gets underway.

Here’s some more on the story in the Northern Times…

Such a Pleasure …

On Friday I had the pleasure of taking some honeymoon photographs of Ken and Gretchen. For me it’s so nice to work in this industry, but every now and again you meet such an amazing couple who are so in love – it makes the whole experience an incredible privilege. Ken and Gretchen are two such people. They came over from Austin (Texas) to get married in Edinburgh. The wedding took place on the 29th April (yes, the same day as William and Kate) and by all accounts they had an amazing day. Afterwards they decided on touring the Highlands for part of their honeymoon, and I took the photographs at ‘The Ness Islands’ in Inverness, near to the hotel they were staying at. They were so relaxed and enjoying the session – the photography was effortless. Rarely have I been able to take so little credit for my subjects’ disposition. I trust they will love the images, and we wish them every happiness for the future!
